Yes, what you think seems to to be right but the Bảng tra chữ nôm of the Viện Ngôn ngữ học (1976) does give at the character no. 2231 the following information (p. 107):


盎
áng --> áng mây
ang --> cái ang đong thóc
đám --> đám cưới


It looks rather strange despite the given exemple.

So I have to type the character with all its pronunciations.

Tại vì dạng khác của nó là 踈, tức là chữ sơ 踈, có các âm Nôm là thơ, sơ, xưa,...

Could you please tell me how to use the Hannom IME to type Han-Nôm characters

Dear Mr. Duong,

Unfortunately, Windows98 doesn't support the Han Nom B font, which is a surrogate pair. On top of that, the HanNomIME only runs with Access 2002 or later. Therefore, you would need Windows 2000 or XP to use this IME. [Sorry for the inconvenience. The Nom fonts require the latest technology.]

As far as typing Nôm characters into e-mail or an HTML editor, I would just type them into Word, then copy and paste, for now.

đành phải dùng bàn go¬ khác để type Hán Character.
the problem is some character that I know but not in the pronounciation (pinyin) therefor it becomes my difficulties in using hán character.
That is the reason I want to use HanNomIME .

If you know Unicode of those characters, you should try using input method by Unicode in the function Insert--->symbol of MS Word.

For ex.
You looked up the unicode of the character 叨 is U+ 53E8
then go to Word, click Inser, Symbole then input 53E8 you will get 叨

You can also use Tự Điển Hán Việt Thiều Chửu to look up characters by radicals and strokes. But this only applies to Hán characters, of course .

Làm ơn cho tôi hỏi, sau khi tôi cài đặt như quý chủ đã chỉ dạy. Nhưng tôi không lam sao biết để cho tôi gõ chữ Hán trên máy tính. Tôi mới học tiếng Hán được 2 tuần và thấy rất hay nhưng làm theo như quý chủ thì tôi không đánh chữ Hán được. Hay là chắc tôi dốt quá không biết được, Làm ơn quý chủ chỉ cho tôi rõ được không. I have two questions. The first one related to download and enter Chinese and Nom characters; and the second one about Han and Nom characters.

1. I tried to download everything as instructed, both ban go and font. However, I could not find the files surreg.exe and setnom.reg in the section of download. After trying many times, I was able to download HanNomA and B. When opening it, it directly opens MS Access. Within Access, the program does not allow me to open new document to type HanNom characters. Moreover, when I tried to use it with in MS Word, I could not use it either. I wonder if the download part missed anything, or my computer could not download it. I tried both computers at office and home. At office, I use Windows XP and at home Window Vista. Neither of them could work.

2. Second question is related to download images from this message window. I am reading several old stele inscriptions from Vietnam, dated 17th and 18th centuries. Currently I am reading Kien Khai Cuu Pham Lien Hoa Bi Ky" at Dong Ngo Temple, in Hai Duong, composed by Chan Master Chan Nguyen. In it, there are several taboo characters, a few Nom characters, and at least ten Han characters that I cannot recognize, because they were wither written in archaic styles, and characters that could not be found in regular dictionaries. I looked them up in Thieu Chuu's dictionary；Vinh Cao's dictionary and even in Matthew's Chinese English dictionary. My last check was in Tu Vi written by Luc Su Thanh, published in Taiwan. I am beginning to learn about Vietnamese Han and read stele inscriptions for a book project. But without much any scholars or thien tri thuc in my area. I know that there are many Han-Nom scholars out there who are familiar with the Vietnamese HanNom system. Is there anyway I can copy, scan and post the characters that I cannot read them, so that I can get help from other scholars, specialists from the Forums. Lastly, any HanNom scholars here in the US that I can directly ask them.

Tôi mới bắt đầu học chữ Hán Nôm. Tôi đã down bàn gõ HanNomIME.zip về máy nhưng khi unzip ra thì không có file setup để cài được bàn gõ này ra máy. Làm ơn chỉ giúp tôi với.

Chào quí vị,

Bàn gõ này là version mới, nên không cần file setup.exe.

Sau khi unzip file, chỉ cần double click vào file có đuôi (extension) là *.mde để mở bàn gõ (bàn gõ dùng MS Access).
